Why Thune's "Threats" Won't Matter and Won't Work Re EAFB

This comes to me from yet another one of my Democratic buddies. It's good to have friends!

Once the BRAC list was released, the White House no longer has direct say over which bases are closed, save for the needle in a haystack eventuality that the President rejects the entire list from his own Defense Secretary (for odds, see winning Powerball several weeks in a row).

The ball is now in the Commission's court, so voting one way or another or threatening voting one way or another, in hopes of influencing a decision on an individual base-- what does the Commission care?

The time for the 'tough' behind-the-scenes lobbying (sit down dinners et al) is over. Now, we have to make the case for Ellsworth on its merits.

Unless, of course, we had somebody from S.D. on the Commission to make the case to his/her colleagues for us...

The last guy from South Dakota on BRAC had to recuse himself from all Ellsworth decisions.

BRAC has not acted yet. The recommendations came from the Pentagon. You guys know that what you are putting out there is false. Further, are you suggesting that no bases should be closed or just that Ellsworth should receive special treatment for some reason. And again, as I wrote earlier, if these closings were as political as you want to make them, why was ND with it's 100% Democratic congressional delegation protected?

Holy Cow Rick, I don't think your getting Fair and Balanced news. So you think North Dakota is being protected. From the Grand Forks newspaper: The Pentagon is recommending that the Grand Forks Air Force base lose its air refueling tankers and most of its personnel, a move that could cost the area nearly 5,000 uniformed, civilian and contractor jobs. The Fargo base also will lose all of its planes.

Hmmmmmm...so North Dakota is being protected is it!

This doesn't mean Thune shouldn't vote against Bolton, right?

No, but he could hold his breath and stomp his feet.
