Paging Ron Wiblemo. . . Paging Ron Wiblemo

This should probably be a S.D. Sports Watch feature, but I came across an article that said a Ron Wiblemo was becoming the manager at a Wal-Mart in Canton, IL.

I will withhold my usual disdain for Wal-Mart because I want to talk about Ron Wiblemo the basketball player.

If this is the same Ron Wiblemo, he is one of the best basketball players South Dakota has ever produced.  As a kid in the early 1970s, I remember hearing his extraordinary exploits on the basketball floor in state high school tournaments.  If I remember correctly, he could shoot like nobody's business in the era before the three point arc.

Ron went on to become a standout at SDSU, where he is a member of the 1,000 Point Club and was All NCC Conference.

If it's one or Ron's kids or a different Ron Wiblemo, congratulations on the promotion.

Ron, if it's you of S.D. high school and SDSU fame, congratulations and thanks for reminding me about the warm memories I have of your playing days in South Dakota.

Imagine my surprise when I saw your page on the web! I am one of Ron's sisters. It was nice of you to remember him so fondly. Yes, he was that good! By the way, he is a Wal-Mart store manager and doing very well. He is married with three children, all grown now. His daughter was quite a basketball player in her own right. Ron's niece will be playing basketball for USD this fall. Have a great day.

I'm the lady above's son.

I wasn't alive in the 1970's, but I'm sure uncle Ron really was good. oo
