Thanks, H-Town
I was pleased but not surprised to see the people and government of Houston, Texas step up and offer help to the New Orleans hurricane victims.
Houston is one of America's largest cities. It is also one of its friendliest.
I lived in Houston the 1996-97 school year, earning my LL.M. from the University of Houston Law Center.
While a big, sprawling city, Southern manners are very much in evidence. I attended a predominately black United Methodist Church near campus in the middle of lower middle class neighborhood. The folks--white, black, rich, poor--where some of the kindest, most caring, and nicest people I've ever met. I love Houstonians.
Houston is also a major American medical center, with its own town within a town of major hospitals north of the Astrodome area. There may be no better place in America to receive medical care. The survivors will be in good hands.
Thank you, H-Town, for offering such wonderful Texas hospitality during many peoples' darkest moment.
