P.P. via the American News Has the Pagegate Lurid Details

The Sen. Lee Schoenbeck letter has come to light in the Aberdeen American News (via P.P. at the S.D. War College).  Here's P.P.'s post: Aberdeen American News has the Schoenbeck letter to Sutton

Yeow, is all  have to say about the allegations.

One thing that Sen. Schoenbeck brings up in his letter that makes absolute sense (and should have been done years ago) is to have the pages live with host families.  Not only does this keep a better eye on the pages while they are in Pierre, it also protects legislators from being placed in compromising situations or being falsely accused of hanky-panky with the pages.

It this simple rule were in place, we probably wouldn't be talking about this story and we'd have to cover the Cell Phone Tax and the Airplane Measure instead so we could fill our pages, broadcasts, and blogs.

The horse is out of the barn for Sen. Sutton, so to speak, but Sen. Schoenbeck's idea should be implemented immediately for the 2007 legislative session.  Or to put it more bluntly, legislators shouldn't be schtooping the student help--or be tempted to do it or falsely accused of doing it.

House Bill 1180 addressing crimes against children was introduced last year. What it eventually became with the legislature's refusal to protect children was a watered down, not much of anything. Details of the bill at: www.AmendmentE.com

Obviously Gov. Rounds special session requests demonstrates Four key points.

1. Politics above all else;

2. Legislators were perfectly willing to drop from the bill, crimes committed against children; and so

3. HB 1180 well illustrates, standard issue children have no one worrying about them, while

4. Children of parents with influence, like in the case of the judge's daughter below,

What I want to know is how old that page was when the alleged incident occurred? If he was 18, technically he couldn't be considered a minor.
