The Anti-Choice Summit the SDMSM Won't Tell You About

I have obtained information from a reliable source who has proved accurate in the past that this past weekend, approximately 70 of South Dakota’s anti-choice “leaders” attended a summit at the Community Bible Church in Pierre to plan their next attack on abortion rights in South Dakota.

While there does not appear to be a consensus on the “best” direction to go to further restrict abortions in South Dakota, the latest plan is for anti-choice forces to initiate an abortion ban with exceptions for rape and incest and a “narrow health exception” for health of the mother.

The best news is that Leslee Unruh, who took over the movement in the 2006 referral campaign, appears to be leading the charge for the initiated measure.  I cannot think of a better person to represent the extremist position of the anti-choicers—and someone prone to just plain silliness in the political realm.

My source tells me that S.D. Right to Life and Focus on the Family oppose the approach and that the Catholic Church, Concerned Women for America, and the Family Policy Council are currently neutral on the approach.

It’s always nice to see your opponents divided.

Anti-choice advocates Matt McCaulley and Rep. Roger Hunt were supposedly in attendance as was anti-choice attorney Harold Cassidy.

Obviously, it is still a bit early to see what might be happening in the anti-choice camp, but one thing is certain.  Keep an eye on them.

I say if Leslee wants to bring her crazy train back into the station, that can only help Democrats, moderate Republicans, independents, Libertarians and people who think for themselves in the 2008 South Dakota general election.

Come on Todd. That's the best pic you could come up with for Leslee?

Oh. Right. Well. OK then.

Halloween is just about around the corner. On an unrelated note, why is your close buddy PP's website toasted again? Just wondered if you'd consider posting a SDWC-Status link here. I'd accept the barbie doll porn-link dress up popups if you had some sort of indicator here that showed when Newland or whoever is hacking PP.

What news is there from the pro-death summit? Other than their telling us how tired we are about trying to save children-of-the-womb while at the same time actively bombarding us with anti-family propaganda?

Bruce:

Thanks for tuning in. You might want to check on how Sen. Thune voted on SCHIPS to see how pro-family he is.

SCHIPS is a financial conundrum which will be debated at length on PP's site once he gets himself a stable web provider and lets Bruce be a moderator.

Well, Bruce, there was a recent story in the MSM of a door to door campaign to collect signatures on petitions. The petitions would let state legislators know they are tired of the debate. You used the "anti-family" statement. You're apparently being indoctrinated by the sibonator. What anti-family propaganda are you referring to?

Todd,

Socialism is not pro-family. Trusting parents of children instead of the government is a true pro-family position. And like I said at my web site: If the Democrats really cared about children, they would take up Rush Limbaugh's challenge and show us the money (your own money) by contributing to the charity that cares for children who has lost a parent that served us so bravely.

I'm curious about why your source on this wishes to be anonymous... it's not like they were meeting at the Pierre church to plan an attack on Iran or anything

I'm guessing that Whalen and Sibson are among those limp, 2-bit "right to lifers." I'm an Extreme-
Right-to-Lifer!!!

I support the right to life of children, toddlers and infants. I support the right to life of women, girls, boys, men, grandmothers and grandfathers, soldiers, Latino lives, Asian lives, Indian lives. And more.

I way beyond focusing on fetuses, blastocysts, and zygotes.
You light-weights looking through your binoculars backwards, while there are billions of lives covering this planet.

Drop your sanctimony and shut your mouths until you've established some REAL right-to-life cred.

Boy I have to agree with D3880. I really think Unruh and Hunt are an embarassment to the state.
