SDSU Lady Jacks: No NIT Picking Here

sdsu.jpgTo most schools, being in the NIT rather than the NCAA in March is a poor consolation prize.

But while I think the decision to move SDSU* to DI is still in the hands of the jury, I think recognition is due the women’s basketball program for all that they have accomplished in their short time in DI.

The women have shown they can play with any DI program in the nation. They are beating much more established programs now in the WNIT.

The program was on solid ground before moving to DI, with SDSU recently winning a DII championship.

Whatever it is the women’s program is doing, the other athletic programs at SDSU should copy.

Congratulations to the Lady Jacks and this outstanding run in post-season play.

*This is not an anti-SDSU household. My wife Donna has her Ph.D. in rural sociology from State. I worked on campus at SDPTV for a number of years. Brookings is a great community. I just don’t know if the state can adequately fund one, let alone two (USD) DI programs, facilities, athletic scholarships, etc.
