Rapid City Attorney Patrick Duffy.
Congratulations to Rapid City attorney Patrick Duffy for being named the ACLU of the Dakota’s “South Dakota Champion of Liberty!”

Pat is an excellent lawyer and, as you’ll read below from the ACLU’s press release, has been the father of Native American voting rights litigation and law in our state for many years.

Patrick, congratulations and thank you for your dedication to the pursuit of liberty!

The ACLU of the Dakota’s Press Release:

The ACLU of the Dakotas announced today that Patrick Duffy is their 2007 South Dakota Champion of Liberty.

Patrick Duffy is being recognized for his efforts over the last decade to promote Voting Rights for Native Americans in the State of South Dakota and in the nation as a whole. The list of cases he has worked on reads like a modern election law history of South Dakota, i.e., Emery v. Hunt, Bone Shirt v. Nelson, Quiver v. Hazeltine, Cottier v. City of Martin, Kirkie v. Buffalo County, and Weddell v. Wagner Community School. His work in this area has changed forever the political landscape by assisting Native Americans to assert their voices in the public debate.

Patrick Duffy will be honored at the ACLU of the Dakotas, South Dakota at its annual meeting.

The meeting will be held September 15, 2007 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm MDT at the Hisega Lodge, 23101 Triangle Trail, Rapid City, SD 57702. The public is welcome to attend.
