Todd's Return as a "Champion"

I have forgotten to mention this for the past couple weeks but I am once again a columnist for the Tea-Harrisburg Champion.

Back when the paper first started under Mark Haugen about eight years ago, I was a columnist.  After the Argus Leader bought the Champion about four or five years ago, I quit because I didn’t want to sign a work made for hire agreement for my column—and I was unhappy that the paper was no longer locally owned.

But recently the Champion asked me to return to write a bi-weekly column about Harrisburg issues—Harrisburg Watch.  (Note a trend here?)

In the meantime, I’ve gotten over my previous objections.  Yes I’m paid a bit for the columns and yes I signed a work made for hire agreement.  I also can’t reprint any of the work here on SD Watch but I can link to it.

Here is my re-debut column from January 16, 2003 about my State of the City of Harrisburg Address upon living there for 13 years: Checking up on Harrisburg

I hope you’ll check out my thoughts on one of the fastest growing communities in the United States every two weeks in the Champion.  My next column will run in the January 30, 2008 issue.

My thanks to editor John Hult was asking me to be a “Champion” once again.

Small town papers are great. It's how I got started. BTW, Your Blog is cause for me to learn something yet again. "Work Made For Hire." I had to look it up. It's a bummer, but something has to pay the bills, eh?
