Argus: Nelson and Tapken Indicted

You read it here first—Dan Nelson and Chris Tapken were indeed indicted in the Southern District of Iowa Federal Court today.

The Argus Leader has the details.  An excerpt:

A lengthy indictment filed Wednesday in an Iowa federal court accuses the politically connected ex-car dealer Dan Nelson and business partner Chris Tapken of defrauding several banks, causing an estimated $21 million in losses. The 28-count indictment alleges Nelson and Tapken routinely created false reports, which gave MetaBank and other participating banks undue confidence in the health of their subprime car loan businesses….

The bill of particulars is pretty long. They screwed a number of local banks. No comment so far on the indictments from Dan’s good friend Sen. John Thune, who served on the MetaBank board of directors during his time in the wilderness between his House and Senate gigs.

Hats off to the US Attorney Southern District of Iowa. A little more than 2 years for a complicated case is considered 'record time.' I just talked to a reporter from the Argus where I tipped my hat to Judge Irvin Hoyt the former Chief Judge in the US Bankruptcy Court South Dakota for keeping this case alive, albeit in Iowa. Judge Hoyt took it upon himself to communicate with the US Attorneys in both SD and Iowa way back in 2006(more than 2 years ago) which resulted in the US Attorney in Iowa's Southern District initiating an investigation. In my opinion, school's still out on J Tyler Haahr and Metabank's role as a partner in the dealership as opposed to their insisting they were merely a lender.

Todd I realize some people want to politicize this issue but the truth be told, I don't give a flying fxxk about John Thune. He's not going to be indicted and he's not going to reimburse the consumers. That 'horse' has been beaten to death.

I am at a bit of a loss. I had no idea Senator Thune was involved in this mess. I await, dreading with dread, Mr. Epp's deep investigative reporting. With the Warcollege shut down because Powers is working 12 jobs to support his brood and with the Argus shutting down and Wooster fired, we'll all have to wait for Mr. Epp to write us a 2 paragraph post.

I kid, Todd. Because I love. en stuff.

Thune the scumbag, indeed. Do the research, store it up and be ready with it when he's ready to go for election as President or VP. This guy isn't fit for high office and it's up to South Dakotan's to point that out when the time comes.
