SD Republicans Find their "Heavyweight" to Run Against Sen. Tim Johnson
So my Republican friends are having problems finding a “heavyweight” to run against Sen. Tim Johnson for U.S. Senate this fall.
- Read the Argus Leader’s recent story: GOP vows vigorous challenge to Johnson
An excerpt:
Nevada’s John Ensign, who is chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, implied as much late last month when he told the political blog realclearpolitics.com that the committee was recruiting two “heavyweights,” one in South Dakota and another in Iowa to challenge Sen. Tom Harkin. “If we’re able to sign them, they will be absolutely heavyweight; they are heavyweight candidates, and if we can get them on board, they will be absolutely national races that people will pay attention to right away,” Ensign said.To this Democrat, however, the solution seems clear. There is a true “heavyweight” waiting in the wings with lots of time on his hands to plan and run a campaign. A candidate who is a true conservative, a man of family values—and vehemently pro-life to boot.
And, at 600 pounds, there’s no doubt about his heavyweight status.
Yes, I’m talking about convicted rapist and former Republican legislator Ted Klaudt, now of the Springfield Medium Security Correctional Facility.
Yes, South Dakota Republicans, you have your “heavyweight”! And, my Republican friends, there’s no need to thank me. I’m just here to help!

Convicted rapist/former pro-life Republican legislator Ted Klaudt—the SDGOP’s heavyweight contender against Sen. Tim Johnson in the U.S. Senate race this fall!?

No fan of the convict, but this is kinda tacky and, I thought, not your style.

Point well taken. But Ted is a big target.
