Making a Better Leap Year: How About July 32d Instead of February 29th?

I’m sorry that February is such a short month.

28 days. What a bummer. But not my fault.

But adding Leap Day to the winter doldrums every four years doesn’t really help anyone.

I’d rather have an extra day of summer.

An extra day of warmth.  An extra day of summer breezes.  An extra day of a more daylight.  An extra day to golf, fish, camp, hike, play soccer, go to a baseball game, walk with your sweetie, sit on the beach, grill steaks or just sit on the stoop and drink a beer.

A day like July 32d once every fourth year.

Why July 32d rather than June 31st?

Because we’d be sure to remember it. And there’s no 32d day of the month.

Yet.

I hope my man crush, Sen. Barack Obama, the next President of the United States, will correct this calendar travesty and in a spirit of bipartisanship and whimsy, give us all an extra day of summer once every four years.

It’s something all of us could agree on.
