The Nuke Is Back and WNAX's Michelle Rook for House?

Just a couple of things I noticed that bear mentioning.

  • Fellow KELOLAND blogger Dr. David Newquist is back on the blogging horse after a rather extended absence due to problems with his hands. It's nice to see The Nuke back at it, giving us all the hell we deserve. Seriously, David, it's great to have you back. I've missed your intelligence, wit, and tell-it-like-it-is style.
  • In looking more closely at the June 3 state legislative primaries, it appears a fairly major celebrity who is running has slipped through the media cracks. WNAX Farm Director Michelle Rook is one of three GOP candidates for the House seat in District 18 (Yankton County). I knew Michelle from my SDPTV days and enjoyed dealing with her when I was with the Jack Billion gubernatorial campaign in 2006. It would be fun to have a reporter in the legislature as well as a blogger, my buddy Pat Powers, who is running for Senate in District 7 (Brookings County).

Nope. She dropped out awhile back. There were some obvious issues with her candidacy: When Chris Turner ran against Garry Moore, he was hosting a jazz show a few hours per week. Garry Moore demanded equal time or for Turner to go off the air; Turner's bosses listened. Michelle works for that same boss now, who is at WNAX. She does way more than a few hours of jazz -- she gets into farm policy and is on Sioux City TV, too. So, yeah that's old news....

Ben:
The official SDSOS listing still has her as a candidate. I and Chris Nelson are just sayin'.
Thanks for the update and inside skinny! You rock!

From March 27: http://www.yankton.net/stories/032708/com_262175396.shtml

Looks like she missed the deadline to withdraw officially but she is not running and would like a replacement named if she would win the primary.
