Who Will Replace Russert? Welcome to TV News, America's Most Heartless Business

Tim Russert hasn't even been laid to rest yet but the horserace-like coverage of who will replace him on Meet the Press has already begun.

South Dakota's own boy baritone Tom Brokaw and actual working journalist David Gregory are the handicappers' early favorites to take over the not even yet cool seat of Russert's.

Disgusting.

What's disgusting...the possible replacements for Russert, or the fact that everybody's talking about it already?

Meet the Press was NBC News' crown jewel. Without it, NBC is in the tank. It is a business thing. Like it or not, the bottom line doesn't wait while tributes are paid.

I am guessing that both you and Lund have turned down an offer to co-host it.

I can see it now Skippy, you can look at Doug at the end of a segment and say "Doug you ignorant......." just like SNL.

I would start watching NBC agin just for that.

They could sure have Bob Schieffer from CBS as far as I am concerned wince we never see NBC out here. Of course CBS might stick Katie S or Harry S in to replace him and that might improved the other shows, but destroy Face the Nation.

Time for a PBS "Face the Music" Sabbath gasbag show from central US..with rotating hosts similar to BBS World News. Enough personality and not nearly enough information on commercial TV.

I don't see much reason for outrage about a moderator horse race since most of those shows spend an inordinate amount of time on political horserace coverage. The celebrity crap is disgusting and Russert is dead whether properly buried or not. He won't ever know that the media is picking his bones apart already.
