Many Americans today reject the theory of evolution as an explanation for human origins. This appears to be substantially based on a belief in the creation story as outlined in the Bible. Because highly religious Americans are more likely to be Republicans than independents of Democrats, it’s not surprising that Republicans are significantly more likely than independents or Democrats to say they do not believe in evolution.
