One More Thing Hurricane Ike Tore Up--Your NFL Fantasy Football Roster

On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being insignificant, this would be like a -179.

But because Hurricane Ike damaged Houston’s Reliant Stadium, the Houston Texans v. Baltimore Ravens game rescheduled for Monday has been moved to November 9th.

This means any Ravens or Texans players you have slated to start on your NFL FFL teams will likely be in the “bye” mode and not score any points for you this week.

So, right after you go to the Red Cross site and give a donation for disaster relief for the victims of Hurricane Ike, go to your FFL site and check your rosters.

Matt Epp Wins South Dakota Watch ESPN Fantasy Football League

Matt Epp, 13, a 7th grader at Harrisburg Middle School, beat eight adults on his way to winning the championship of the ESPN South Dakota Watch Fantasy Football League.

Matt’s H’burg Broncos defeated Connie Jon’s  Will…go…All…the…Way 279.6 to 274.3 in the two-week long championship game.

Matt tied for the second best regular season record, going 9-3 in his first outing in FFL, winning the McGovern Division.  Will…go…All…the…Way had the best regular season record at 10-2, also winning the Abourezk Division.

The lifelong Broncos fan is the son of Todd and Donna Epp.

Matt’s dad Todd finished the season in 4th place.  Todd’s Harrisburg Thune Thumpers (6-5 regular season) lost the third place game to Daschle Division winner Crawford, TX KarlsKillerKats (9-3), losing 177.4 to 236.7.

Thanks to everyone who played and congratulations to Matt for a great season!

Play Politico's "Kingmaker," the Fantasy Presidential Primary/Caucus Game!

I hope you will join the South Dakota Watch League at politico.com and see if you can out prognosticate me, the experts, and your fellow SD Watch readers.

How to play?  You provide a range of how well you think the Presidential candidates will do in the upcoming primaries and caucuses.  The narrower the range of votes you think a candidate will receive (and the riskier the prediction), the more points you receive.

You can also make other predictions, like which candidate(s) will be the first to drop after the Iowa caucuses, New Hampshire primary, etc.

So, join in the fun!

Super Bowl XLI 1/2 Prediction: Patriots 34, Colts 27

My 13 year old son Matt is a junior Mel Kiper, Jr. when it comes to the NFL.  He knows about all the players and all the teams.  Even the college players who will be tops in the 2008 draft.  Because I let Matt do the live draft for one of my fantasy NFL teams, I’m undefeated.

So, I asked Matt to play tomorrow’s New England Patriots v. Indianapolis Colts (the battle of the unbeatens!) game today on his Sony PSP on Madden 08.  The Patriots won 34 to 27.

Matt played as the Patriots against the computer, which was the Colts.  The game was set in Indianapolis, the site of tomorrow’s match.

Here’s some highlights of the “game” with my analysis:

  • Patriots QB Tom Brady threw for 5 TDs.  My take: Very likely.  Brady is hot, hot, hot!
  • Colts QB Peyton Manning had 3 interceptions, including one on their game tying drive.  My take: Very possible.  Manning is playing very well this year as well but the Patriot’s defense might make his day a long one.
  • The Patriots miss an extra point.  My take: Possible but not likely.  The new guy for the Patriots is not likely to miss, but hey, stranger things than that have happened.
  • Final score, 34 to 27.  My take: Probably right on the button.  The Colts defense is playing well, but only well enough to keep the Patriots from breaking 40.  The Patriots’ offense is a machine!
We’ll have to see if the real game bears out the simulation.  My own pick was the Patriots by a touch down or so but not hitting 34 points.

Now Forming: The Sioux Falls Area Democrat Pistol League

If you are a Democrat, a target shooting enthusiast, and want to have a safe, good time, a fellow area Democrat and I are hoping to start a Democratic pistol/revolver league.

I am a terrible shot but love to shoot.  We would have someone give us some lessons on safety and shooting, then meet at a shooting range on a regular basis for fellowship and competition.  We'd then adjourn for refreshments after the competition.

If you are interested in our Sioux Falls Area Democrat Pistol League, send me an email at toddepp5531@msn.com.  Democrats and friends of Democrats are welcome to join.

Hurry! Only 7 S.D. Watch FFL Spots Left!

Teams are moving off the lot faster than MetaBank can round up Isuzus at Dan Nelson Auto/Family Isuzu!  Only 7 spots are left in the 20 team S.D. Watch NFL Fantasy Football League.  Democrats, Republicans, and others of similarly questionable backgrounds have all signed up to celebrate the great American game of football and try and cart off the massive MetaBank Watch Bowl I* trophy.  Send me an email if you want to join.  Draft day is Labor Day.

*I gave MetaBank the prestigious and expensive Bowl Watch trophy the naming rights for free as I figured they needed some positive publicity.

S.D. Watch Fantasy Football League Update

We have filled 4 of 20 spots in the new league. If you want an invite, send me your email.  The deadline to sign up is Sunday, September 4, 2005.  The draft is Labor Day, September 5th.

Also, I am not going to reveal the names of any participants in the league if they do not want to be named.  There are people from both political parties involved.  So, when you sign up, use a nom de plume if you are concerned and also send me an email that you don't want your real name mentioned.

I may update standings on the blog from time to time and let readers know how the playoffs shake down.  However, I want the game to be a refuge from politics and just let people in politics or who love politics have a good time together.

Play ball!

Are You Ready for Some Football? Join the S.D. Watch League on ESPN for Free

Hey sportsfans!  How about a little fantasy football?

I have formed a S.D. Watch fantasy flootball league open to all readers of this blog.  Go to this link on ESPN to sign up. You may first need to set up a user account on ESPN.  There is no cost for the basic team.  You can enhance the information available to you and have real time scoring for a fee.

There will be a playoff towards the end of the regular NFL season (week 13).

Please fill the four divisions in order (Daschle, McGovern, Truman, and FDR).  I've set up 5 teams in 4 divisions.  So, I'm the first team in Daschle Division (Harrisburg Tigers).  Fill Daschle first, then go to McGovern, Truman, FDR, etc. to fill division slots.  That way, if I don't have twenty teams, we can add the stragglers to the remaining divisions or I can rejigger them.

I have been in several fantasy leagues with friends and I think they are a blast.  Democrats, Republicans, Independents, everyone is welcome.  I am the commissioner.  I've always wanted to be Commissioner Epp (Sibby, you can call me Commissar Epp.) Email me if you have questions.

I look forward to playing you this fall!
